Drilling Soda
Anhydrous sodium carbonate in the form of white hygroscopic powder for industrial use.
Mixing
• General levels of hard water (80-120ppm) and low pH (6-4) can be treated by adding 4-6 Litres (dry measure) of Extreme Drilling Soda per 1000 Litres (250 Gallons) of water or mud in the mixing tank.
• Simply sprinkle the Extreme Drilling Soda into the mixing tank with the mixer on High to allow it to dissolve.
• Check values with litmus paper and add more Extreme Drilling So da if required.
Principal Uses
• Used to precipitate out unwanted calcium hard-ness and to adjust the pH out of make up water.
• Optimum values for drilling fluids make up water would be a pH r ange from 7 to 10 and a calcium ion level below 60 parts per million.
• Both of these parameters can be checked using litmus paper .
• Bentonite drilling mud is particularly susceptible to these two parameters but other additives also benefit from properly treated make up water.
